The key to the future of combined heat and power generation is iKWK "The German Coal Phase-out Act opens up completely new opportunities for combined heat and power (CHP). This is because the associated amendment to the CHP Act (KWKG) promotes the flexibilization of the technology and thus opens up innovative business models for CHP plants. Until now, these have almost exclusively served as base load generators in continuous operation. However, the sharp increase in volatile electricity generation from solar and wind power means that more and more residual load is required: this is precisely where CHP has a great opportunity to demonstrate its market credentials for the future. However, the new flexibility also increases the complexity of CHP-based energy concepts. Sound project development and planning are essential to ensure that the respective business case remains economically viable.
A Brazilian power plant operator uses wood chips for its energy supply. However, the wood chips first had to be dried using a belt dryer system with an integrated hot water conversion station. The basis for this was a model from the "BT 1/8400-58" series from Stela Laxhuber GmbH. However, this had to be adapted from the ground up with regard to an optimized overall system concept. A suitable concept was developed together with Gammel Engineering and Pewo Energietechnik.
