On Thursday, November 7, 2013, there was a crucial public meeting of the local council in Hengersberg on the subject of the Schwaiger sawmill development plan amendment. It was touch and go as to whether the expansion of the biomass cogeneration plant and pellet plant at the Schwaiger sawmill by an ORC biomass power plant would be permitted. One of the decisive factors for the final, unanimous decision was that Schwaiger employee and local councillor Roman Preisinger made it clear how important the existing biomass cogeneration plant and pellet plant were for the continued existence of the sawmill with its 165 employees.
Other sawmills missed out on this development and have since disappeared from the market. The second construction phase is also vital for the continued existence of the sawmill and jobs due to the increasing demand for dried construction timber and wood pellets. On October 13, 2026, we were pleased to welcome Ms. Annette Bauer, coordinator, and Ms. Anna Portner, president of the hospice association, to our facility. As part of our Gammel Family Social Fund, we presented them with a donation of 850 euros.
A forward-looking construction project will begin in Offenstetten with a ceremonial groundbreaking on October 2, 2026. A modern building complex for approximately 220 children and adolescents will be built in two phases.
New housing is being built on the site of the former Prinz-Leopold Barracks in Regensburg. On Friday, October 1, the groundbreaking ceremony was held for 226 subsidized apartments—adding another important component to the Innovation Quarter.
