Siemens operates CHP at the BMW exhibition center in Aschheim
BMW AG operates the BMW test site in Aschheim near Munich on an area of 67 hectares on the northern shore of the Ismaninger reservoir. The 4 km long, completely straight test track has the design of a federal highway with 2 lanes in each direction. In addition to the test track, various buildings house different test and trial facilities.
Siemens AG Industry Sector Building Technologies will supply base-load electricity and base-load heat to BMW as part of a contracting model. A natural gas CHP unit with an electrical output of 400 kW and a thermal output of 430 kW was installed in an existing building directly next to the heating center to supply heat and electricity. For soundproofing reasons, the CHP unit was given its own enclosure within the existing room with F90 walls. The CHP unit was integrated into the existing heating network together with an 18 m³ buffer storage tank. The existing hot water boilers continue to cover the peak load.
The Gammel Engineering team would like to thank Siemens AG and BMW AG for commissioning the overall planning in all trades and for the trusting and constructive cooperation!
